Now Showing
Like the other sections, this will be expanded in the future. For the moment, here are some links to a few important video archives. When an archive search covers a range of time, the dates used have been January 1, 1930, through September 12, 1945, the date of Japan's surrender.
The newsreel collections are particularly important because newsreels were the only action-oriented news of their day. You could read about world events daily, or twice daily, in the newspaper, but to see them, you had to watch a newsreel, generally shown (anlong wtih shorts, cartoons, etc.) before a movie, in place of the half-hour of assorted advertising the captive audience subjected to today.
