Navajo Code Talkers' Alphabet
A lot has been written about the Navajo Code Talkers in WWII, in far greater depth than is possible here. Martin Briscoe posted this information, which mentions that in addition to the code words for various military terms, there was also an alphabet used as a cipher for words that had no code equivalents. It was a Diné translation of an English spelling alphabet based on words that existed in Diné — in essence, a two-level spelling alphabet.
